Tollesbury Juniors 4, Beacon Hill Rovers 1

The wind played a significant part in this match, played at Tollesbury. The team with wind behind could clear a half with their goal kicks, that meant in the first half that Tollesbury were piling on the pressure and Rovers spent much of the time defending, mostly on the right where the wind blew everything… including the players. James S took control of defence, guiding Will and Matt C when needed, all three made good strong tackles, but pressure, all in one part of the pitch began to tell and Tollesbury were able to take three goals in the half. One blocked by a defender, but rising out of the challenge to go way over Matt N in goal, one nicely taken chip and a fair strike on goal. Heads stayed up and the second half started well with wind behind. Lewis O was able to distribute the ball well and Rovers attacked on both left and right flanks. We scored at the first corner of the half… exactly as it had been practised at training with Thomas Ewers being on hand to power the shot home!
Great play up front by Declan was nearly rewarded on several occasions as Tollesbury grimly hung on. The run of the match though came from Jack, jinking his way past three flat-footed Tollesbury players to get to a one-on-one with the keeper after running more than half the pitch. His placed shot was just saved. At the other end Matt N was still busy, but with confidence he stopped several shots, tipping one round the post.
The last 5 minutes saw a good free kick, not dissimilar to the BHR corner routine, get converted for a flattering 4-1 victory to the home team.

Man of the match James S came off injured in the last few minutes in what was otherwise a good friendly match between two clubs that have playing each other now for 6 years!
