Beacon presented with FA Community Club award
by David Park
On Saturday 24th April Beacon Hill Rovers were officially presented with the FA Charter Standard Community Club award. The presentation was made before Colchester United's home game against Tranmere Rovers. Representatives from Beacon Hill received the FA Charter plaque on the pitch before the match and a group of players and coaches then got to watch the Championship match. It ended one-all at the Weston Homes Community Stadium - Colchester fans left unhappy as the draw signaled the end of their play-off chances, but Beacon Hill Chairman Steve Ewers was more upbeat, "It's been a great day and it shows the progress the club has made over the past five years," he said, achieving the award shows that Beacon Hill offers excellent opportunities for a wide range of players in the community." After winning the national FA Charter Standard Club of the Year in 2008, the next target was to achieve the highest FA accreditation; the Community Club award. In making this standard Beacon joins a relatively small number of clubs in the region, and still they stand out in that they offer both adult and youth football - an important factor in the genuine sense of community felt at the club. picture: Ed Smith, Steve Ewers and Tom Ewers receive the FA Charter Standard Community Club award from Essex FA's Duncan Charlick.
