RESULTS - 12 / 13 December: Three Teams into Semi-Finals...
by nick
***Following the defeat of Valley Green by Writtle, the Under-15's are in the League Cup semi's*** ***The firsts and reserves sailed through to semi-finals in the County Cup*** Tiptree Jobserve were held 0 - 0 by the Under-9's while the Under-15's had a score-draw snatched away in the last minute of their 2 - 3 defeat at Boreham. The men's teams all emerged 4 - 2 victors; the firsts won their sixth match running, the reserves made it ten wins this season and the thirds continued their impressive league run. Likewise the ladies netted four, but they also managed to keep a clean sheet in their convincing home win against Little Oakley. IN FOCUS THIS WEEK - THE MEN'S FIRST TEAM: Beacon Hill Rovers 4 Weeley Athletic Reserves 2 Another week another cup game! Hill’s 1st team were turning out for their fifth cup match in six games, having won the previous four plus the league game played in that period. Confidence was high for the visit of Border league side Weeley, even with their manager on his annual trip to India. The confidence showed from the outset with some lovely free flowing one touch football from one side of the pitch to the other, at some points even being too elaborate. Hill took a deserved lead midway through the half when Kev Miles notched for the first time for the 1st team, cutting in from the left wing he beat the keeper at his near post. Miles was also involved in the second goal as he went over an outstretched leg in the box after he had put the ball past the defender. Matt Surridge stepped up are scored the penalty taking his tally into double figures for the season. The score was taken to three-nil at half time with the last kick of the half - Adam Sansom scoring direct from a twenty yard free kick. The half time chat fixed on remaining concentrated and focused, even if the odd decision seemed hard to understand. Hill did have opportunities to extend their lead but none were taken. Even the unlucky dismissal of their skipper didn’t affect Hill's dominance, until with ten minutes to go Weeley were award a free kick on the edge of the box. Like Hill’s third, a goal was scored direct from the kick but this time it was because the wall decided to jump over the shot. Things then got a little bit interesting when Weeley got their second with a couple of minutes to go. There was time for a sixth goal but it went to Hill, Surridge releasing Dave Heward who ran unchallenged for thirty yards into the box before lifting the ball over the oncoming keeper. Hill are now in the regional Semi-Final of the County Cup for the first in many-a-year. See team pages for all teams' full match reports.
