Awards night caps a sterling season

5 Jun: Beacon took to Five Lakes Country Club for their annual end of season dinner and presentation evening following a vibrant season at the club. While the night proved as enjoyable as ever, players, coaches, partners and supporters got a chance to recognise and celebrate on and off the field successes, as well as show their appreciation for the hard work of many who contribute to the club as a whole. On the field all the adult teams maintained their divisional standings following promotions the previous season, notably the Reserves and Third teams achieved the highest league positions in their history and the First team put their name back on a trophy they last won in 2008. The addition of a number of youth teams has seen the club grow significantly with two new girls sides, the introduction a new under-6 program and extra teams formed at both under-10 and under-8 levels. The club continues to expand into 2011/2012 with the introduction of the inaugural Men's Sunday League side, the Under-16 Boys continuing on in youth football, the development of additional facilities as well as the constant improvement of our already superb set-up at our Wickham Bishops ground. On the night presentations kicked-off with Vicky Cooke receiving the hotly contested Young Player of the Year followed by Marc De La Rue collecting his First team award while First team vice-captain Dave Tracey accepted the Tiptree Cup won by the side last month. Justine Dallard, pictured receiving her award from club President Reg Banham, and Nina Christie scooped the player honours for the ladies team while their tour side collected their 6-a-side trophy following their third successive win in The Netherlands recently. The Veterans once again recognised Kev Lee as their Player of the Year, while Tony Riley took the Sportsman's gong. Other season awards included: Clubman of the Year: Nick Smith Mo Seeraullee collected the Soccability award on behalf of Nick Andrews. First Team Player of the Year: Matt Surridge Reserve Team Player of the Year: John Curson Reserve Team Sportsman: Steve Shelley Third Team Player of the Year: John Scott Third Team Sportsman: Ben Green
