10 out 10 for Social as Vets sink Britannia
31 Jan: The Sunday Social side (pictured) made it ten wins from their ten league games on Sunday, beating Sporting 77 4-1 at home. Goals from Jamie Cracknell, Eddie Holroyd and Simon Roast enabled Beacon to maintain their 100% record in BNESL Division 2. The Vets won their fifth league game of the season over a Britannia struggling to keep their place in Essex Division 1. Having only lost one from their last six league games, Beacon's old boys kept up their good run of form with a 5-1 win. The Third team made an admirable comeback in their league game against St. Clere's A. 3-0 down with twenty minutes to go, Beacon looked dead and buried before goals from Ryan Gibson, Rob Smith and Kev Miles leveled the match. Results elsewhere didn't favour Rovers - the First team lost away at Scotia Billericay, the Reserves lost 3-2 at home against Braintree and Bocking while the Ladies lost 3-2 away to Chelmsford City. See team pages for more details.
Skipper shows Redbridge the way
14 Jan: In an excellent team performance, Beacon's Ladies came from two goals down to beat third placed Redbridge. Marie Hall and Sarah Taylor started the comeback before skipper Lynne Galloway (pictured front right) scored her second goal in two games in the final minutes to secure the win. Beacon's never-say-die attitude finally reaped its rewards and earned them a much deserved win after a difficult season so far. Rach Harwood typified their determination after the game saying, "2012 is going to turn our fortunes around and we will fight this relegation till the end, taking some tips from Blackburn...." For more details see the Ladies' team page.
Firsts secure vital win at Rhodesia
15 Jan: The First team went to bottom-of-the-table Rhodesia United needing a win to revitalise their Premier Division season. A first-half hat-trick from Adam Sansom (pictured) and a Marc de la Rue header clinched the points leaving Beacon within reach of teams above them in the table. The Reserves lost out in a tight encounter at home against Latchingdon. Three home goals were not enough to secure much needed points. The Third team fared a little better, coming away with a point from their home game against Focus Ferrers. Beacon will be a disappointed that they didn't hold on to a three-goal lead, but were eventually relieved not to have lost a game that swung to and fro. An early strike from Junior, two goals from Kev Miles and a couple of fine saves from keeper Rob Hill gave the Thirds the draw. The Vets came away from Frenford aggrieved after a second-half penalty proved decisive in a very evenly matched game. For more details see the team pages.
