History

Beacon Hill Rovers played their first match on the 26th March 1921 on the site behind the Mitre near the new Beacon Hill Sports Ground. The Founder of the Club was Jack Barnes, landlord of the Mitre, who arranged the loan of a set of black and white shirts for the match against Warren.

A variety of other pitches were used around the four villages until 1927 when the Club were part of setting up the Beacon Hill Sports Association and the move to Snows Corner, our home for the next 87 years. The most successful era came in the 40's and 50's when the team, run by Joe Cousins, collected a whole series of trophies.

The Mid-Essex League recently presented the Club with a Long-Service Award, although over the years as well as the Mens Teams, the Club also offered Youth Football in the 1930's and 1940's and ran a Ladies team in the early 1950's with Win Lawrence one of their main players. After operating two Mens Saturday teams for many years the Club added a Veterans Team in 1996 followed by Ladies team before venturing into Youth Football again.

September 2005 saw the culmination of several years of hard work when the new football ground and changing facilities were opened by Sir Trevor Brooking. A packed crowd braved the downpour, which paused for the opening, and cheered as the ribbon was cut. Since then bacon rolls and hot drinks have become a regular fixture for home games - very welcome on cold days!
