| Coaching in the Community - Beacon Hill working in schools
In 2007 BHRFC successfully ran an “FA 3 Lions” programme for year 1 children in partnership with Great Totham Primary School. BHRFC coaches provided sessions in the school and followed this up with an eight week introductory programme at the club’s own facilities. The under 7s team formed as a result of this programme completed their first season in the Blackwater and Dengie League in 2008. Over 20 boys and girls were involved and the team continued into 2008/09 as under 8s. 2009/10 saw the same team make the step up to under 9s where their season culminated in winning the Weston Cup. Take a look at the match report and photo.
A further programme will was run for more year 1 children in the Autumn of 2008.
BHRFC coaches also provide a continuing commitment to work with year 5 and 6 children at Great Totham Primary school. Coaching at an after school club is provided for these age groups and school based teams participate in matches against other local primary schools during the season. For two years in succession Beacon Hill have hosted two Essex County Schools F.A. Under-11 competitions – the Malcolm Moffatt Trophy (boys) and Cup (girls). These tournaments have been extremely successful events, with more than twenty schools from the region entering teams. We look forward to hosting the event once more in the coming autumn.
Working closely with our large local primary school has led to strong links between club and school. The club now has well over 120 local children registered and actively taking part in junior football where coaching is delivered to a high standard appropriate to our FA Charter Standard status.
